Installations

My fake fur pieces are paintings that blur the world of 2-D and 3-D. The work has the immediacy of drawings while having the physical nature of sculpture. The formal qualities work with the organic qualities to set up a balance and a visual challenge in the pieces. Opposite forces are at work: hard with soft, organic with geometric shapes etc...I use multiples of a shape to highlight subtle shifts in each piece. Shape, color and repetition lead one to the minutia of experience. I am interested in getting the viewer to slow down. My work draws equally from minimalism and nature. The pieces bring up many diverse references such as toys/play, the body, subtle light shifts in nature and minimalist art while at the same time being open to viewer interpretation. I use fabric to create a sensual and seductive feel to the pieces. The visceral nature of the materials encourage touch/squeeze similar to the enticement of stuffed animals. The pieces are not meant to be touched while provoking a strong desire to touch, hence a sense of both allure and limitation is created.
